Eek! I’ve been a bit bad about updating the blog, which is a shame because I have so much news I want to share! For starters, I recently came back home to Georgia. India was an absolutely incredible experience, but it is so nice to be home again and especially in time for the holidays! Things with Maelu have also been picking up quite a bit and being back in the states has been really helpful for business logistics, aka: no more lag times using international mail – yay! I also took part in my first craft fair at the Athens Artist Market. I learned so much in the process and overall it was such an awesome experience. The customers were kind and the vendors were so inspiring and supportive. Check out some of the pictures I took from the event:
Also, some really really exciting news – Maelu was featured on www.Fab.com a month or so ago and the sale did so well that our block printed infinity scarves are featured on Fab AGAIN! The sale is going on now so please check it out here and pick up some last minute holiday gifts!
Happy Holidays!

One of the things I love about India is that I can always find something vegetarian (and delicious) nearby. Heck, I walk into a McDonald’s and get to take my pick from at least 90% of the menu – how awesome is that? But as great as I think it is, some of my meat loving expat friends haven’t been as thrilled with the over abundance of veg friendly grub. They’ve been missing their meat, bad. So when the end of Ramadan rolled around, we headed straight to South Bombay to witness the celebrations and check out the rumored spread of unusual carnivore friendly dishes. The rumors proved to be true and we did find a ton of tasty, unidentifiable meat – in addition to streets jam-packed with families, shopping stalls and the largest vats of oil I’ve ever seen!
I may have missed out on the grub, but I definitely enjoyed drinking my Thums Up (India’s crack version of Coca Cola) and photographing the beautiful people and festivities around me:

Things are getting a little bit busy around here. For one thing, Maelu just hit 100 sales on Etsy and in celebration we’re offering 10% off your entire purchase until the end of the week – just use the coupon code “GoMaelu” at checkout! For another, we’ve added some new items to the Etsy shop. Infinity scarves are still running the main show, but we’re making room for… DRESSES! the Maelu Tunic Dress to be exact. I love a versatile dress and these tunics are the perfect thing to wear with boots and leggings in the upcoming chilly weather. What’s even better is that after winter’s over they look great rocked on their own or even thrown over a swimsuit. Check them out on Etsy and don’t forget to use your coupon code to receive 10% off!

Whoa, whoa, whoa guys… Hold up. I have an announcement to make.
Megsiepedia is officially 1-year-old! Sound the trumpets, bring out the cake, make a wish – my baby blog is growing up! Isn’t the saying something like, a year older a year wiser? Um, does that mean I’m supposed to be wiser now? I mean I may be getting older, but I’m pretty sure my mind still works like a confused 16-year-old most of the time.
Ok, so I may not feel that much wiser. No biggie. Still, I did manage to pick up a little bit of knowledge on this last year of adventure. While it may not all be considered useful by some, it has most definitely changed the way I see the world.
Let’s review shall we?
For starters, I learned how to communicate with wild animals. I kid you not. From now on you can just call me Dr. Megsie Dolittle.
Then there was that time I worked on my stealth skills by managing to sneak into a Muay Thai fight in Thailand. Befriending ladyboys and picking up new dance moves was just an added plus.
Oh yea, and I think I may have discovered every single delicious veggie friendly dish known to man – at least in India, Thailand and Cambodia that is. I’m talking dal for days and noodle soup for eternity.
My palate is forever altered.
Then, I fell in love…with textiles.
How could you not become a textile lover when this sort of scene surrounds you all the time? The colors, the patterns, the fabrics! Everywhere. All. the. time.
I’m stricken..
At some point I slowed down. And learned how to sit still… and appreciate the awesomeness of just being and breathing.
And when a monster gang of mosquitoes attacked me for sitting so damn still, I unearthed the amazing healing powers of tigerbalm. Burns and bites are no match for this magic in a bottle.

Soon enough my inner Giligan was discovered after hiking for hours through an unmarked jungle and stumbling upon a practically deserted beach on an island off the coast of Cambodia. The reward for playing Giligan? An ocean bluer than the sky and miles and miles of white untouched sand.

But then the quiet beach bubble was burst when I got to Thailand and realized that everyone (mainly from the entire continent of Australia) had already gotten the memo and beat me to the beach. Here I learned the true definition of “bro-ing” out. In case you’re confused, 1. see picture below and 2. reference Urban Dictionary: Broing Out: verb: An assembling of men for the specific purpose of imbibing fermented or distilled grains, objectifying the opposite sex, and emoting machismo.
And finally, I got down to business and learned how to create wonderful, beautiful things. Sewing school in Chiang Mai and block printing in India. All of it helped lead me to here.

So I still may not be that much wiser in the conventional sense of the word and maybe I do spend too much time being confused about life decisions. But here’s another thing I’ve grasped in the past year: who cares?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to not sweat the small stuff and be grateful for what really matters – my family, friends, the good grub, my growing business and mainly the fact that I’m alive to experience all of this amazingness. Here’s to the next year of learning and adventuring.

I did it. I went back and got my fix.
For some it may be booze, drugs… even chocolate. But no, not me. These days I’m dreaming only about textiles and lusting over block prints. It’s becoming a problem.
Alright, let’s be real – block print addiction wins over alcohol addiction any day.. though, it would be nice to be dreaming about something a tad bit more exciting than textiles.
Gah, but I do love them so..
Needless to say, block print wonderland was fantastic.
Now that I’m back, the scenery has slightly shifted.
Chaotic, but satisfying.
That’s the soundtrack that keeps playing in those lovely block print dreams of mine.

Megsie
